A 16-YEAR-old boy has been released without charge after he was arrested in connection with the death of a Cork teenager.

Michael Cornacchia (16) died of a suspected drug overdose at his home in Deermount on Monday.

The teenager was well-known in his area for being a talented football player.

Gardaí said that a young male had been arrested yesterday afternoon under the Misuse of Drugs Act in relation to the death.

A spokesperson confirmed this morning that the 16-year-old had since been released without charge.

Following Michael’s death, the HSE yesterday issued a warning over a drug called U-47700 – also known as U-4 - a synthetic opiate substitute.

U-4 is said to be eight times stronger than heroin and has been linked to significant number of deaths in the United States.

The HSE advised that the drug could be sold in the form of cocaine.

A post-mortem was carried out on Michael’s body on Tuesday.
